Maximum hard drive size for Intel RST 14 (X99 chipset, RAID 5, data volume)

I have an Alienware Area 51 R2 desktop, which uses the Intel X99 chipset. This appears to be Intel RST 14.

I wish to use three large drives in a RAID 5 configuration. This will be a data volume (no boot).

What limitations need to be considered in selecting a drive? Are there capacity or other restrictions? The only limit I've found so far are that older drivers require 512e, but I run Windows 10 and have fully up to date RST drivers.

Is there any reason three 10TB Seagate IronWolf NAS drives would not work in a RAID 5 configuration? This is Seagate model number ST10000VN0004

Intel Extreme Tuning Utility on Windows 10 Anniverary won't install

Hi,

I have an issue with the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility, the latest version. (6.1.2.13)

I could not get it to install, latest windows 10 (build 14393) I kept getting getting an error saying could not start the XTU service, verify you have sufficient privileges.

I got frustrated, so I re-installed windows to remove any old versions or conflicts.  Then once windows and drivers were fully patched I tried the XTU install again, but got the same error.

In Windows Services I noted that XTU was listed as starting. I noted that in resource monitor the Intel integrated clock controller service ICCS was using a bit of CPU.

When i manually stopped the ICCS the XTU started just fine, then I could start the XTU without a drama, and the install completed without error.

Now each time I startup the PC the XTU does not start. it will start when I manually stop the ICCS.

The board is an ASrock Z170 Pro 4, with the latest BIOS, 7.0.

Many Intel(R) System Usage Reports

I noticed one day that my machine was starting to run slower than normal; when I opened the task manager I saw nearly 50 running "Intel(r) system usage report"s all running at once.  I'm not sure how to stop so many from opening at once or if this is a virus or bug on my machine.  I normally run with 100-102 processes happening but this brought it up to 170 on occasion.

I'm running a Xeon E3-1246 v3 Haswell-WS CPU in an 1150 socket with a C222 chipset.

What RSTe drivers do I need to download (and where) for this combination (or just the C222 chipset if the CPU doesn't matter)?

Intel RST, RAID 10 array offline, clear metadata ?

$

Hello everyone,

I'm experiencing a problem with my RAID 10 array and need some advice.

My computer is based on an ASUS P8Z77 WS motherboard with an Intel controller managing the following ports :

2 x SATA 6Gb/s port(s)

4 x SATA 3Gb/s port(s)

My OS is Windows 7.

I have a RAID 0 array of two SSDs for the system on the two SATA 6Gb/s ports and a RAID 10 array of four HDDs for data on the four SATA 3Gb/s ports.

Both arrays are managed through Intel Rapid Storage Technology software version 12.9.0.1001.

Yesterday I tried to clone a friend's HDD with Clonezilla, using an extra SATA port managed by a Marvell PCIe 9128 controller.

During the process of trying to save an image of the HDD on my computer, I couldn't see my RAID 10 array as a target to save the image and aborted the process.

After a reboot, one of the physical HDD of my RAID 10 array was indicated as degraded, so I allowed the IRST software to rebuild the data under Windows overnight.

Everything went fine and my RAID 10 array was working this morning.

Tonight I started my computer and realized my RAID 10 array was not accessible. All of the four drives are marked as offline in the IRST's POST slash screen and in the IRST software under Windows.

I'm pretty sure the HDDs are working and the data on the disks should be OK, but I'm not sure how to try to get it online again.

In the IRST software, I have the option to "Clear metadata" for each one of the four physical HDDs of my RAID 10 array.

So my questions are :

1. Should I click "Clear metadata" in order to let the RAID 10 array "rebuild" itself ?

1B. Which one should I click then ?

2. Would it be possible to try to rebuild the data from the RAID 10 array HDDs and save it to another HDD before trying anything with the IRST ?

2B. Which software would allow me to do that ?

3. Should I cry ?

Thanks in advance if you have any insight in this kind of problem and any advice...

RAID 1 won't boot after rebuild

I have a server running Windows Server 2008.  I am using RAID 1 on the boot volume.  Recently replaced a failed drive Volume 0 Disk 2 ,  Performed a rebuild using the RAID manager in Windows.  Now the system won't boot with the new drive attached.  If I remove the drive it will boot in degraded mode.

The disk is identical mfg and model as the original.

I have done this twice now with two separate identical results on both drives.

Note:  I am not able to enter the chipset RAID by hitting Ctrl I  It ignores the key strokes.

Can someone please help?

I can't find IRST software to launch in windows 7

My raid showed as degraded as one of the drives became unplugged.  I plugged the drive back in, and now it shows REBUILD at startup, and says it needs to be rebuilt from within the OS, but I cannot find the utility to launch within windows 7.   What am I doing wrong?  Where do I find it?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Windows Server 2016 + Intel RSTe RAID

I have just installed Windows Server 2016 on my Supermicro X10SL7-F and have a mirrored boot drive that I initially created in the BIOS. When I launch Intel RSTe it looks like this:

The two SATA SSD 119GB drives make up the mirror but why can't I see the RAID volume? In explorer it looks like this:

Why does it say "Unknown controller" under devices? Am I missing a driver or running the incorrect utility to monitor the RAID on my system? Is this an issue with Windows Server 2016 possibly?

Can someone assist please? Thanks!

RAID questions

So I used Intel RST and created my RAID on my win10(idk how but the app says it doesnt support win10 after i clicked into system requirements), but soon I found out my hdd is missing in windows explorer, even though I can still see it in RST for some reasons. I wonder why this would happened, also I am not sure what type of RAID did I create.

I currently have driver version's 9.3.0.1021 from Lenovo and also this version from Intel. I know this sounds daft but which should I be using? Thanks.

How do I remove RST software and drivers safely

A bios company said to add this so I could run my SSD on older Alienware M17 with old BIOS  on my JMB36x storage controller that has taken over my BIOs since suggested? And will I still be able to access my storage....trying to install Linux and RST won't do it.

I'll never buy another Dell because no new Bios's because Dell bought Alienware shortly after i purchased my M17 and abandoned it!!! Sorry.

Intel RST installation incorrectly sets hard drive media type Windows 8.1 Pro x64

Hope someone can help me here.

After a fresh install of Windows 8.1 Pro my media type is correctly set under the analyse and optimise function. This is using the in box drivers of Windows 8.1. When I install the latest RST and update the RAID drivers, the media type changes to SSD which is incorrect. The analyse and optimise buttons are now greyed out and I can no longer defrag the hard drives.

I have taken many steps to try and correct this issue but still no luck. The BIOS is set to UEFI and it correctly identifies the HDD. I have also used the F6 driver installation of the latest RAID driver during the Windows install. Media type is still set to SSD.

Intel RST status correctly states that SATA HDD are connected. So is it a Windows problem?

Very frustrating. Any help would be appreciated.

Surely Im not the only person in the world with this problem.

Kind Regards

RAID drivers to use with Z170 chipset for NVMe drives?

$

I have a motherboard with a Z170 chipset and I have two NVMe drives. I want them to be configured as RAID1 drives.

I tried installing RSTe NVMe 4.5.0.2125, but the message was "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software."

I tried installing RST RAID 15.2.0.1020 and the RST from the Gigabyte website (motherboard is a GA-Z170X-UD3), but when I run it there are no NVMe drives connected: https://i.imgsafe.org/de500979f8.jpg

In Computer Management, I have two disks. Computer Management in Windows 10 shows this, but one disk has the OS, the other has the system partition: https://i.imgsafe.org/de477d4eaf.png

How can I get these two NVMe drives into RAID1? It is no problem reinstalling windows from scratch as this is a new build.

Intel RST BitLocker eDrive Win10 conflicts

Hi,

I'm trying to use BitLocker eDrive hardware encryption, but Intel RST 14.5.0.1081 is confilicting. I know this because when I uninstall RST, it works, but when it's installed it uses software encryption (BitLocker asks if I want to encrypt whole drive or only used portion)

This problem existed with an older version of RST on Windows 8.1 too and was fixed in version 13.2 (not entirely sure of exact version) but seems to be back.

Intel TXT(LT) + TPM 2.0 = BIOS POST loop

$

Hello,

there seems to be some strage issue between C236 chipset and Intel Xeon E3 v5 CPUs when Intel TXT(LT) is being used together with a hardware TPM module.

I noticed the following behaviour on an ASRock Rack board with plugged TPM 1.2 as well as on an ASUS Board with plugged TPM 2.0, both C236 chipset. CPU is a Xeon E3-1245 v5.

I found out that if the Xeon TXT (LT) feature is enabled in the BIOS and the TPM is plugged in, but disabled, both systems hang at POST. If the TPM is set to enabled, the system is not stuck at POST anymore, but after POST the system reboots (POST

loop). So if I want to use Intel TXT, the TPM must be physically removed. The TPM is recognized by Windows and working properly. The other way round also works, unplugging the TPM allows then to activate Intel TXT. But as TXT is made for use with a hardware TPM, that makes absolutely no sense.

Can you please assist here on how to solve this issue?

Best regards

Stefan

Staggered spin-up delay

$

Does anyone know how to adjust the staggered spin-up (SSU) delay on an IRST RAID?

I have 5 HDDs in a RAID 5 configuration and the default delay between drives seems to be about 3 seconds, which means total spin-up time is over 15 seconds.  Most of my networked devices will time-out waiting for that.  (I'm on v.11.2.0.1527 BIOS firmware running IRST v.13.6.0.1002, since v.14.8.0.1042 drivers don't seem to support idle power management.)

Massive DPC / ISR Dropouts on X99 / C610 Chipset (Intel 6800K) while Direct3D 11 Rendering

$

Hi People!

I hope that i can explain the issue with my broken english but i give my best

I own the Sapphire Radeon 390X Nitro and build up a whole complete new system.

Specs are:

Intel I7 6800K

First Mainboard (why first, i'll explain a little later): ASUS X99-A II

Second Mainboard: ASRock Fatal1ty X99X Killer

RAM: 32 GB G.Skill RipJaws 4 RED (DDR4 2400 MHz)

GPU 1: Sapphire Radeon R9 390X Nitro

GPU 2: NVIDIA GeForce 660 (for CUDA)

Issue: Even if i install Windows 10 with the whole bunch of drivers i got terrible DPC / ISR Lags (tested with LatencyMon). The reported files are: dxgkrnl.sys and HDAudBus.sys (sometimes some NVIDIA drivers). The latency spikes are such as great that when i start a game which uses DirectX 11 (maybe 12 too) the sound ingame from the onboard soundcard (Realtek ALC1150) start crackling and popping like an old vinyl, 'caused by Sounddropouts of some drivers.

To prevent some hardware issues i uninstalled the NVIDIA Card and reinstalled Windows 10 completely. The Issue was still there.

I reinstalled windows 10 again and installed only the newest drivers of all components (Intel Chipset, AMD, (tried without and with NVIDIA Card) and so on). The Issue was everytime the same.

After getting frustrated i installed Windows 7 and inside the Games the weird sound crackling was gone. I thought the issue is fixed and gone but i been taught of a better one. I stream sometimes with OBS Studio (Open Broadcaster Software) to Twitch. When i start OBS and put a mediasource into the scene (f.e. a MP4 Animation) the whole system starts to lag and sound crackling again from the finest sort of. LatencyMon say everytime the same two files. Sometimes USBPort.sys where i believe that it depend on the HDAudBus.sys 'cause the drivers, where it doesn't matter if its from microsoft or intel, new or old, fix the issue. Under Advanced Options of  OBS there's a menuepoint which calls: Renderer. Instead of Direct3D 11 i choosed OpenGL and believe it or not - everything works fine. But the Issue is still there 'cause i got sometimes system lags.

After all the problems i been very frustrated and contacted my hardware dealer. I asked him for any solution and he said, that it can depend on the mainboard and want to change it.

So i bought another one, because i read very much problems in the wide net with ASUS and Sound Issues, that i choosed the option to change the whole mainboard manufacturer. So the new second board is finally the ASRock Fatal1ty X99X Killer.

I tested with the new board windows 7 first. And hey... same issue as before. Windows 10 it's the same.

After crawling the whole wide net again i found, that NVIDIA got some problems with Windows 10 and DPC / ISR Latency which results in Sound Dropouts and system lags but i tested it everytime twice. With and without NVIDIA Card and driver after a new reinstall of Windows 7 and Windows 10. I can't see the installation screen anymore of any windows so often i installed it in one month.

So... whats the problem? I posted it synchron in the microsoft forum, obs forum and don't want to put it down in the nvidia forum too, 'cause i don't think that it depend on it.

The Realtek Sounddriver is currently the newest one from the Realtek FTP and should work fine (and believe it - i tried maaaaaaany of them). Tried the Intel USB Drivers old and new ones, AsMedia USB 3 old and new ones. Chipset drivers old and new ones (or even stock installations of windows itself). Shortly: I tried so many things that i don't know what i can do next.

So now my question:

Does anyone has the same issues with an X99/C610 Chipset in combination with an Intel I7 6800K or above? How can i fix it? What can i try next?

And yeah... i overclocked it but the issue is still there when i don't overclock it. The RAM works currently with XMP Profile (for 2400 MHz) but without (2133 MHz) the issue persist too.

It seems that Microsoft implemented some issues with the anniversary update of Windows 10. When Microsoft updated DirectX 11 to DirectX 11.4 (and i read something about a new communication with the drivers) that there are some issues with the communication and produce the high driver latency so that every driver which came after the dxgkrnl.sys and hdaudbus.sys will start to lag because the executiontime of the both drivers are horrible rising. But when they updated DirectX 11 in Windows 10 i think they updated in  Windows 7 too and so the issue is in windows 7 too. Thats the only explanation which i have. Or does someone got another? I hope so or i'll change the CPU too (for preventing an hardware issue if i got a monday cpu).

UPDATE: After changing the CPU to a new one the issue is still there.

Now i'm currently at a state where i don't know what i can do next and need some help.

I recognize that the USB 3 XHCI Drivers for the X79 / X99 Chipset (Enterprise Enthusiast Model) is not stable? Not the Windows 7 Online Drivers nor the Intel Drivers from the Website itself and produce Output / Display Lags too.

raid 1. RST ROM 10.1.0.1008

RST software 12.x

only if the original failed drive (which does detect) is hooked up, does the option to rebuild appear.

if a replacement drive is added, no option to rebuild, in ROM or Windows.

installed RST software v 15.x and that option did appear but did not work.

what is going on, and how do i replace a failed drive in a raid 1?
